ASE-Definition (dt.)
Der Begriff Engineering wird als die kreative Anwendung von wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen und mathematischen Methoden für die Entwicklung und Herstellung von technischen Artefakten definiert. Oft wird das Engineering synonym zum Begriff Produktentwicklung genutzt beziehungsweise berücksichtigt ausschließlich die Produktentwicklungsprozesse. [Im Zuge einer ganzheitlichen Definition von Engineering werden] über die Prozesse hinaus auch die prozessunterstützenden Methoden, IT-Werkzeuge, Informationsmodelle und Organisationsstrukturen sowie die erforderlichen Kompetenzen berücksichtigt.

The term engineering is defined as the creative application of scientific knowledge and mathematical methods for the development and production of technical artifacts. Often, the engineering is used synonymously with the term product development or only takes into account the product development processes. [As part of a holistic definition of engineering] beyond the processes, the process-supporting methods, IT tools, information models and organizational structures as well as the required competences are taken into account.
