Unter einem Produktmodell verstehen wir ein Modell, das ein Produkt rechnerintern repräsentiert. Am Ende der fachdisziplinübergreifenden Konzipierung besteht das Produktmodell aus einem kohärenten System von Partialmodellen, die jeweils einen Aspekt repräsentieren. Im Zuge der Konkretisierung kommen weitere Modelle hinzu, die in den beteiligten Fachdisziplinen wie Mechanikentwicklung, Elektronikentwicklung. Softwareentwicklung etc. entstehen und in der Regel fachdisziplinspezifisch sind, aber auch in bestimmtem Umfang fachdisziplinübergreifend sein können (Beispiel: Modelica-Modelle). Auch diese Modelle der Konkretisierung sind Partialmodelle des Produktmodells.

We understand a product model to be a model that represents a product within a computer. At the end of the interdisciplinary conceptualisation, the product model consists of a coherent system of partial models, each representing one aspect. In the course of concretisation, further models are added, which are created in the specialist disciplines involved, such as mechanical development, electronics development, software development, etc., and are used in the product development process. Software development etc. and are usually discipline-specific, but can also be interdisciplinary to a certain extent (example: Modelica models). These models of concretisation are also partial models of the product model.
